Abstract
Diabetes, sleep and fatigue are intricately connected, and much of individuals with type 2 diabetes experience poor sleep quality or insomnia and fatigue. Foot bath with warm water are a cheap and simple way to relieve stress, insomnia, anxiety, fatigue and tired muscles, as it stimulates acupuncture points present at the sole of each foot. This is one type of home remedies and sometimes, home remedies are more effective than medicines. So, the study was done to examine the effect of warm foot bath on fatigue, quality of sleep and fasting blood sugar level among diabetic older adults in selected hospitals, Pune.Quantitative research approach was used and the design used for the study was non-randomized control group design. 60 samples (30 control and 30 experimental group) were selected by using non probability purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by using Demographic Profile, Modified Revised Piper Fatigue Scale, Modified Groningen Sleep Quality Scale & a glucometer for fasting blood sugar level. Result shows that fatigue, quality of sleep and fasting blood sugar level was common in both the experimental and control groups. Two sample t-test was used for comparison between experimental & control group.Average change in fatigue score in experimental group was 3.3 which was 0.6 for control group. T-value for this test was 12.5 with 58 degrees of freedom. Average change in sleep score in experimental group was 4.7 which was 0.3 for control group. T-value for this test was 8.5 with 58 degrees of freedom. Average change in fasting blood sugar in experimental group was 20.1 which was 3.6 for control group. T-value for this test was 2.9 with 58 degrees of freedom. .Thus, it concludes that the application of warm foot bath was significant effective in controlling the fatigue level, sleep quality and fasting blood sugar level among diabetic older adults.
