Abstract

As the main fuel for modern transportation, navigation, and industrial and agricultural production processes, excessive use of diesel fuel has caused the depletion of fossil fuels, and environmental pollution, in order to solve these problems, more scholars have devoted themselves to the research of alternative fuels. Biodiesel is a renewable alternative fuel, it has the advantages of environmental protection, non-toxic, renewable and without changing the engine structure for using. Biodiesel due to its inherent high viscosity, high density, low calorific value and other disadvantages, which will cause delay ignition, lower the ignition temperature, cause incomplete combustion, reduce engine performance and increase exhaust emissions. In order to improve these problems, the additives can promote the combustion of biodiesel engine, improve the performance of biodiesel engine and reduce engine exhaust emission. This paper will review and analyze the effects of different kinds of additives on the combustion performance and emissions of biodiesel engines under different engine operations.
