Calculation of partial and total cross sections for deferent atomic number at gamma energy range (10-3 -105) MeV

Abstract

      This object of the present work was to determine the partial cross sections photoelectric interaction, coherent ( Rayleigh ) , incoherent ( Compton )  scattering and pair production (in nuclear field and in electron field ) as well as total cross sections for deferent atomic number ( 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 ) at gamma energy range  ( 10-3 -105 MeV ), using XCOM code. Furthermore, the total cross section of Al, Fe and Pb at gamma energies (0.6616, 1.1732 and 1.3325 MeV) emitted from radioactive point sources 137Cs and  60Co were measured, using NaI(Tl) scintillation detector. The results obtained have showed that the calculated and measured partial and total cross section values are sensitive to the incident photon energy and atomic number of target material.
