Abstract

Background: High Emotional competence is essential for dealing with unpleasant situations that people encounter during the course of interactions with others at work. EQ is said to distinguish between average performers and outstanding performers. Emotional intelligence is receiving increasing attention of academicians for dealing with students of 21st century and it has been observed that programmes aimed at improving students’ emotional intelligence have beneficial effects on their academic and professional achievement.


Objectives: This whole study revolves around the importance of Emotional Intelligence for students in higher educational institutions. The major objective is to examine the factors like empathy, self- awareness, commitment, managing relations, self- motivation and emotional stability and their role in academic growth.


Methodology: Student perceptions were quantitatively researched to study the constructs like empathy, commitment, self- awareness, self- motivation, managing relations and emotional stability in the selected sample. Hypothesis was analysed by using appropriate statistical techniques. The data was analysed using SPSS 20.


Results: The study helps to understand the EI awareness of undergraduate and postgraduate Business management students. The study revealed that improved cognitive health results in better reception and processing of information. It will prove to be significant for the policy makers in improving the quality of education and creating programmes aligned with student holistic development thereby enhancing employability of students.
